Zhangjiang High-Tech Park Phase IV

Shanghai, China

LRS began work on the 1.2 million SF project in 2007, after being selected from many US, European, and Asian firms competing to provide expertise and leadership in achieving LEEDTM Platinum, for the Phase 4 portion of the park.

The LRS team included Interface Engineering and HDR Inc., who worked closely with LRS to develop advanced sustainable systems for the project.LRS’s efforts support the Chinese government’s focus on environmental concerns and reflects the project owner’s desire to be a pioneer in China’s burgeoning green movement.

Architecturally all buildings utilize building facade strategies based on solar orientation. Each building facade is distinct based on minimizing solar heat gain effect on the southern and western facing facades, allowing more indirect light on the north facades. The east facade allows for some direct solar penetration since heat gain is minimized due to only receiving early to mid morning direct sun.

To reinforce a “campus” aspect of the project a simple palette of materials and repeated architectural forms are used throughout the group of buildings to help “knit” the design together, which includes Office, R&D, Exhibition Center and Commercial space.
