LRS completed the renovation and addition for the historic Towne Storage building in Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District. The existing 99,000 SF, five-story, unreinforced masonry building was originally constructed in 1915. The goal of the renovation was to transform the building into an attractive creative office building.
Upgrades included seismic strengthening, window sash replacement and refurbishment, brick and stone restoration, a new enhanced exterior entry and main lobby, restoration of the iconic steel water tower, and the addition of a new 8,750 SF Penthouse set-back on the roof with two exterior landscaped decks.
The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the design and renovation was reviewed and approved by the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission.
Ultimately the renovation was successful in attracting a single tenant for the building, allowing it to remain a vital and useful part of the Portland riverfront.
